History of Music Recording
Thomas Edison made the first sound recording in 1877.The Edison phonograph was released for public sale in 1887 allowing people to listen to sound recordings in their own home.Intial recordings were made using wax cylinders.
First gramophone was invented in 1887 slightly after Edisons phonograph.Gramophones differed in that they play music recordings.First records were placed at different speeds between 60 and 120RPM.1925 78RPM became the standard speed for records.In 1930 the first 1/3 RPM records were released and this then became the standard RPM. In 1949 the first 45 RPM records were released.
Cassettes tapes - The tape was invented by a Dutch company called phillips in 1963.Between early 1970's and early 2000's the cassette was one of the two most common formats for prerecorded music,first alongside the LP record and later the compact disc.
Compact cassettes contain two miniature spools, between which a magnetically coated, polyester-type plastic film is passed and wound.Then Japanese company sony revolutionised the way that people could listen to music when they were released
