Analysis of Music Video Theory:Little Mix

Little Mix are a young group/band of girls who are known globally for there singing and for being the first band to win on X factor. They  are signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music. The members of the group are Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Jesy Nelson. The groups target audience is mainly young/teenage girls as you can see through promotional events there are plenty of girls who are in love with this famous group. The genre of their music video 'Shout Out To My Ex' is Pop.This music video is about a girl getting over a boy after a breakup. All they way through the video the girls are happy and showing they have got over the breakup showing a seal of approval as these 4 girls are seen as very strong role models to younger girls who may have or is going through a breakup.

However the music video caused a huge up roar across the press as Perrie Edwards had recently split with partner Zayn Malik. This was then foretold that it was aimed at Zayn but actually it had nothing to do with Zayn as the record label wrote the song for the young pop band.

Each of the girls screen time were either seen as a group or individually using close-up shots all of them have an equal amount of screen time.In the video there is no lead singer and each girl has there own lines that they sing.Close up shots were used when each girl sang there lines and the camera focused on the singers in detail. However a establishing shot is used when they have lines that they sing all together for example the chorus.

The footage for this music video was designed specifically for the song and it matches the genre. The girls are seen lip singing and the camera is directly upon the group. This theory is called railtons theory as the video is categorised as a staged performance.Within the music video the editing may relate to keazer and wubennas theory for example cutting to  the beat and synchronising  the music with the girls movements.Goodwin's theory of there being a relationship between lyrics and video content is shown at certain points within this video. A main example is when Perrie sings the lyrics 'forget that boy, I'm over it' and Jade holds a gun shooting the words 'over it'.
